Carmel board okays $12.9 million water filtration plant bond

NY CARMEL — Carmel board approves $12.9 million bond for new water plant. The Town Board unanimously authorized $12,911,963 in bonds to finance a new water filtration plant for Carmel Water District No. 2, with Town Engineer Richard Franzetti noting environmental remediation of asbestos and lead paint must precede demolition. Councilman Robert Kearns reported the project cost has dropped from $28 million, with potential federal grant funding up to $5 million and possible zero percent interest financing.
The board also authorized $30,000 in emergency repairs to town facilities and approved a $30,495.45 contract increase for RFG Community Center renovation.
