NY CARMEL — Carmel Board opens moratorium on multifamily housing in commercial zones. The Town Board voted unanimously (4-0, with one member absent) to open a public hearing on a temporary moratorium restricting new multifamily dwelling permits in Hamlet Mixed Use Center zones through November 30, extending the comment period through September 9. Supervisor Michael Cazzari and Councilman Robert Kearns explained the board needed time to revise zoning following adoption of a new Master Plan to prevent multifamily applications from consuming prime commercial real estate.
The board also unanimously scheduled October 7 for a public hearing on proposed 15 mph speed limits in school zones during school hours, citing resident concerns about speeding on town roads near schools.
