Carmel opposes state battery storage siting bill

NY CARMEL — Carmel Town Board unanimously opposes New York State Senate Bill S5506 and Assembly Bill A8378, which would grant centralized state authority to site battery energy storage systems and override local land-use controls. Supervisor Michael Cazzari and the four-member board cited documented hazards including fires and explosions in Warwick that overwhelmed emergency response and forced site condemnation. The board also authorized purchase of a Ventrac Tractor for the Recreation and Parks Department at $73,006.68 and scheduled a February 18 public hearing on fire protection and ambulance district contracts totaling $4.3 million.
Police Officer Scott Fiske was promoted to Detective effective immediately on a probationary basis.
