Town Board opposes New York State electric bus mandate

NY CARMEL — Town Board unanimously opposes state electric bus mandate, citing infrastructure gaps. Supervisor Michael Cazzari, Councilman Robert Schanil, Councilman Michael Lugo, and Councilman Frank Lombardi backed the resolution offered by Councilman Lugo, objecting to New York's requirement that school districts purchase zero-emission buses by 2027 and fully transition by 2035 without adequate charging infrastructure or guaranteed funding. The board will send formal objections to the Governor and State Legislature within 14 days.
In other business, the board unanimously authorized $43,661.25 for a police department 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and $210,000 for a highway department 2025 Caterpillar 930 wheel loader.
