NY CARMEL — Carmel zoning board approves housing variances for Putnam County. The board unanimously granted eight variances allowing Putnam County Housing Corporation to convert its office building at 11-17 Seminary Hill Road into three ADA-accessible apartments. Chairman John Maxwell noted the location's walkability to town services and multifamily neighborhood character.

The variances included a 6.5-foot side yard reduction, four parking space variances, and increased lot coverage from 65 percent to 98.2 percent. The organization, operating 43 years, pledged perpetual ADA-accessible use. The board voted 7-0 to deny a separate variance request from Charles Williams for six chickens at Bryant Trail, after neighbor testimony about odor and proximity concerns.
